Anyone Remember What's In The Health Care Bill?

Anyone Remember What's In The Health Care Bill? Anyone Remember What's In The Health Care Bill? Since the Senate passed its version of a health overhaul on Christmas Eve,Pearl rings most of the debate has focused on the politics of the effort. By now, #xmany people have forgotten — if they ever knew — what the bill would actually do. So here's a short refresher.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, the Senate-passed bill would expand coverage to roughly 30 million of the 46 million people in the U.S. who lack health insurance. Most of the remaining uninsured would be undocumented immigrants, who would be ineligible for benefits under the bill.

    Insurance Mandates

One of the most popular things the bill would do is ban insurance companies from excluding people or raising their rates, because they have what's known as a pre-existing medical condition. What's that? Here's how California Democratic Rep. George Miller described his: "I sit here with two artificial hips, a little bit of arthritis, and I have a kidney stone. I'm dead in that insurance market if I have to switch policies or switch companies."

But in exchange for getting insurance companies to agree to accept everyone, #xthe insurance companies need more healthy people to be covered to help spread the risk. So the bill does something that's a lot more controversial: It requires everyone to have insurance.

That's something many Republicans used to support,Pearl rings but don't now. "Never has the federal government said any American had to buy anything. Now, [you] have to buy insurance. If you don't buy insurance, pay the IRS more money," said Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) during the Senate's floor debate in November. Grassley is correct in that the mandate would be enforced at tax time. If you can't prove you're covered, you'll pay a penalty.

    Helping Hand

But help will be available. If you're poor, you'll get health insurance for free through the Medicaid program. For the first time,ATM Parts, able-bodied adults who are simply low-income would become eligible for Medicaid. Middle-class people who have to buy their own policies would get government subsidies. And small businesses would get tax credits to encourage them to help pay for insurance for their workers.#x Those who have to buy their own health insurance get another leg up — a new marketplace called an exchange. Pearl ringsThere they could pool their buying power and compare their options.

Lil Wayne's Jail Time Is An 'Eye-Opener,' Young Jeezy Says Lil Wayne's Jail Time Is An 'Eye-Opener,' Young Jeezy Says Now that Lil Wayne has been sentenced to one year in prison following several delays, Halogen bulbthe reality is setting in for his fans and friends. No one in the hip-hop community wants to see Weezy leave, #xand rappers also realize they need to run tighter ships in Wayne's absence.

Young Jeezy said he'll not only miss Wayne's work ethic and music, but also his friend's rebellious attitude.

"Wayne, like I like to call myself, is a trap-aholic," Young Jeezy told MTV News last week in New York, hours before he brought Weezy onstage at Madison Square Garden as a surprise guest during Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 Tour. That performance — which also included Nicki Minaj and Drake — would be Wayne's last before he went to jail.

"He stays in the studio, he stays working," the Snowman added. "We'll definitely miss that. At the same time, we'll definitely miss what he brings to the game as far as him just being Wayne and doing what the f--- he wanna do. We definitely gonna miss that. But it's just an eye-opener to all of us. Sebelius continues to criticize insurers Sebelius continues to criticize insurers The Obama administration's top health Ray Banofficial on Monday stepped up scrutiny of rate increases by the parent of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois and four other large health plans, #xurging them to "publicly justify premium hikes."

"If insurance companies are going to raise rates, the least they can do is tell us why," Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said on a conference call with reporters. "I asked CEOs to post online the actuarial justification for premium hikes so consumers can see why their premiums are skyrocketing."

Sebelius said she sent a formal letter to these companies Monday, following a meeting Thursday with chief executives of Chicago-based Health Care Service Corp., Wellpoint Inc., Aetna Inc., UnitedHealth Group and Cigna Corp.

Sebelius described as "jaw dropping" the rate increases of up to 60 percent this year for individual customers in Illinois that were reported by the Tribune last week. #x

In addition,State Flags, she mentioned premium increases as high as 39 percent in California. Such rate increases are far above medical inflation trends that are generally in the high single digit percentages, industry analysts say.

Health plans are not ruling out complying with Sebelius requests, Ray Banbut say they are trying to find a way to do so. Health plans have defended their rate increases by saying the costs of hospital care, prescription drugs and medical devices are driving their premium increases.

"We are reviewing her requests and are looking for the most feasible and transparent ways to help our customers better understand the drivers of health care costs," said Health Care Service Corp. CEO Pat Hemingway Hall, who met with Sebelius last week."While premium increases continue to receive much attention, it is important to remember that premiums are a reflection of the underlying issue we must all address together — the high cost of medical care."

To justify their rate increases, Sebelius is asking the plans myriad questions,#x including how much they are spending on medical benefits, administrative costs,Ray Ban executive salaries and other expenses.

Did The Oscars Live Up To The Hype? Experts Weigh In Did The Oscars Live Up To The Hype? Experts Weigh In Sunday night's 82nd Academy Awards ceremony shook things up with Kathryn Bigelow's Best Director win and the six awards garnered by her film "The Hurt Locker." Concrete Mixing PlantsThe show itself made some bold decisions, #xtoo, including having two hosts with Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin, nixing Best Song nominee live performances and keeping the stage fresh with different faces for performance and visual gags.

"In my book, those guys are old pros, and every line they said was good," entertainment journalist Jeff Wells told MTV News about the hosts. "When they introduced a couple of younger actresses 'who have no idea who we are' — that was good stuff. It was blunt, and it was straight, and they had it all worked out, where they kind of resent and don't like each other and, you know, 'F---you, Alec' and 'F--- you, Steve,' it's funny. That pretend hostility always works." #x

Martin and Baldwin's onstage chemistry resonated, and gave the pair opportunities to rebound jokes and play off one another, which hasn't been an option in years past.

"Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin were able to play off each other very well, and the fact that there were two of them allowed them to be a little more biting," Entertainment Weekly writer Dave Karger explained. "They had a partner in crime. If it had just been Alec Baldwin or it had just been Steve Martin, they would have had a harder time getting away with some of the more skewering humor." Concrete Mixing Plants

Particularly in the case of potshot humor aimed at audience members, the hosts had support onstage to keep the program rolling. Lone stand-up comics can end up taking the heat if a joke prompts awkward laughter or dismissive silence.

"[Martin] needs a straight man, and I thought Alec Baldwin really rose to that occasion," Big Hollywood columnist John Nolte said. "We just don't have a Johnny Carson or a Bob Hope anymore. Individually, you can't imagine [Martin or Baldwin] doing half as well." Neil Patrick Harris' surprise entrance got reactions, but it also came off weak for some critics.

"The Neil Patrick Harris thing was kind of a cliché,Pearl earrings," Wells said. "I guess that's supposed to generically get the energy up. I don't know that it was all that inspired."

The performance broke the ice for the night, though, and the energy came.#x "At first,Concrete Mixing Plants I was confused as to why Neil Patrick Harris would be onstage before the hosts, but the fact of the matter is that he's an incredible song-and-dance guy," Karger said.

Comment Columnists / Lorrie Goldstein Comment Columnists / Lorrie Goldstein One of the favourite tactics of global warmists is to set up PVC Coated Fabric“straw man” arguments and knock them down.

For example, they’ll say the growing number of people skeptical about claims of imminent,#x catastrophic, man-made global warming — including many scientists — are insanely claiming all climate science is a hoax.

That might be a valid point if that’s what most critics were saying. But it’s not.

Rather, they’re arguing that since it’s only human to “follow the money” and the big money,Diamond blade, to say nothing of scientific prestige in the climate change field, at least pre-Climategate, was in predicting imminent, worst-case, catastrophic, man-made global warming, that might have skewed the science somewhat over time.

How do we know it’s human nature to follow the money? From the warmists.

Take Greenpeace’s widely quoted 2007 report that ExxonMobil spent almost

$23 million between 1998 and 2006 funding skeptics who questioned man-made global warming, #xpart of, PVC Coated Fabricthey say, the oil giant’s campaign to sow confusion with the public.

So, Greenpeace’s argument goes, these skeptics’ views were influenced by money.

Okay. Let’s say that’s true. And, since ExxonMobil is only one company, albeit the biggest and baddest on this issue according to the warmists, let’s say Greenpeace’s research into ExxonMobil uncovered only 1/100th of the total funding the fossil fuel industry and others paid to skeptics. Let’s say it was

$2.3 billion. That would certainly be a lot of money.

But as Joanne Nova, an Australian climate blogger (www.joannenova.com.au) and author of The Skeptics Handbook recently noted, #xit pales beside the $79 billion the U.S. government alone has spent on climate research and technology since 1989. (Nova rejects the science of anthropogenic global warming, which doesn’t change her point.)

Given that kind of public mega-money invested in climate science and technology in just one country, PVC Coated Fabricit makes you wonder about some things.

Jeff Jaffe, Novell's chief technology officer until late January and a former executive at IBM and Lucent Technologies' Bell Labs, was named W3C's new chief executive officer on Sunday. In his new position, Jaffe will work with W3C Director Tim Berners-Lee, who first proposed the idea of the Web more than 20 years ago.

"Tim is passionate about the fact that you need a variety of processes to deal with different situations and different issues," Jaffe said in a phone interview with CNET. "Right now the W3C has a very robust, very open process that brings in everyone's' views. There are times there are hot new technologies where you need a faster path to get to the answer quickly. One mechanism for faster standards development at the W3C is the incubator group called XG, Jaffe said.

"One of the reason for XG, for incubation groups, is there is a priority to strengthen the outreach to the developer community," Jaffe said. "In general I'd say my focus #xneeds to be more outside the organization rather than inside." About 1,500 outsiderscompact fluorescent lamp are involved in the W3C's working groups, he added.

The Apollo 17 astronaut, who is also a former U.S. senator, is aghast at what President Obama is doing to the space program.

"It's bad for the country," Schmitt said. "This administration really does not believe in American exceptionalism."

Schmitt's harsh words are part of a furious blowback to the administration's new strategy for NASA. The administration has decided to kill NASA's Constellation program, crafted during the Bush administration with an ambitious goal of putting astronauts back on the moon by 2020. Obama's 2011 budget request would nix Constellation's rocket and crew capsule, funnel billions of dollars to new spaceflight technologies, and outsource to commercial firms the task of ferrying astronauts to low-Earth orbit.

    What SAP Needs After Apotheker

What SAP Needs After Apotheker What SAP Needs After Apotheker Late in January, just hours after SAP (SAP) reported its fourth-consecutiveHydraulic pump quarterly drop in sales, executive board member Bill McDermott #xsaid that he'd heard the customers' complaints about price increases imposed during a recession and that the world's largest supplier of business software was responding. "I'm not deaf," McDermott said in an interview. He also pointed to signs of a stronger 2010: After two years of belt-tightening, customers were starting to buy software. "CEOs need to grow their businesses again,Diamond blade," he said.

McDermott's remarks may now serve as a prescription for SAP itself, which on Feb. 7 named him co-chief executive, along with executive board member Jim Hagemann Snabe. Longtime executive Léo Apotheker, who was named CEO less than nine months ago, resigned his post after a flow of brutal financial results, customer complaints about higher prices, and the elimination of 3,000 workers, the largest in the German company's history.

In order to fix SAP, former North American sales boss McDermott and Snabe, head of product developmentHydraulic pump , need to stock its pipeline with products that companies are more interested in buying, calm restive customers, and counter competition from Oracle (ORCL), which has outmaneuvered SAP through canny acquisitions. High on the co-CEOs' priority list will be shifting SAP's focus from cost-cutting to innovation. SAP must develop versions of its complicated software that can be delivered over the Internet and run on new classes of mobile computing devices.

"There had been an erosion in trust" with customers, says Paul Hamerman, an analyst at Forrester Research (FORR). SAP alienated them by raising prices for technical support while aggressively selling data-analysis software it acquired when it bought Business Objects in 2007, Hamerman says. The sales tactics came as information technology departments were trying to cut back. SAP was "trying to extract as much money as they could from customers," Hamerman says. "If you try to do that too aggressively, you pay a price. SAP paid the price in customer loyalty."

McDermott and Snabe will need to wage a multifront battle. Software license sales fell 28% last year as companies pared spending on computer systems during the recession. Customers balked at price hikes and forced SAP in January to back off an even-more-expensive plan to raise support fees. And SAP #xis perceived as lagging in inventive products. "They haven't been able to keep pace with the innovation that's gone on in the industry," says Brendan Barnicle, an analyst Hydraulic pump at Pacific Crest Securities who rates SAP shares "sector perform."

In the first quarter, a net 6% of firms, on a seasonally adjusted basis, said they expect to add to their workforce, up from -2% in the prior three quarters, according to the Milwaukee-based firm's survey of more than 18,000 employers.

"We continue to remain cautiously optimistic," said Melanie Holmes, vice president of world of work solutions at Manpower. "For those who are currently unemployed and looking for work, we anticipate that U.S. employers are inching ahead. We are heading into the right direction, but the labor market will really take some time before it begins to accelerate."

IBM, Stanford cite advance in plastic recycling IBM, Stanford cite advance in plastic recycling SAN FRANCISCO — When you recycle a plastic bottle, it doesn't necessarily Traffic barrierbecome another plastic bottle.

Because of limitations in recycling technology#x, a common type of plastic used in water bottles and food containers weakens so much when it's recycled that it can't be used again for the same purpose. Some small amount of the plastic might make it into another bottle, but more often than not, it instead becomes synthetic carpet or clothing and can't easily be recycled a second time. So when those products are used up, they end up in landfills.

Researchers from IBM Corp. and Stanford University believe they have developed a way to significantly improve the quality of recycled plastic and strip away those limitations.

A new recycling methodTraffic barrier the researchers are announcing Tuesday involves a way to break the plastic down so that it can be reused again and again in the same form. It is an advancement that could intrigue beverage companies and help cut the environmental damage from making plastic from scratch.

The innovation is a new family of catalysts that can reduce polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic to its basic building blocks,Mold, while retaining its original properties and making it "ridiculously economical" to build it back up again, said Bob Allen, senior manager of chemistry and functional materials for IBM's Almaden research center in Silicon Valley.

The project is in the laboratory on a small scale. Researchers are planning a bigger pilot at the King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology, home to Saudi Arabia's national laboratories#x. Allen said the technologyTraffic barriercould be commercially available within five years if the pilot goes well.

A critical question will be the price of the technology.

Although this is a known as the "United States President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton Secretary of State had to read the book," but I thought after reading the book, which in turn even greater than the two U.S. officials a must read, if there is more and more Americans see this book, China's peaceful development will have a correct understanding; a more Western countries, officials and the public to see this book will deepen their understanding of China and the elimination of unnecessary misunderstanding ; a more and more Chinese people look at this book will learn a new angle to examine the issue#x and establish a new concept, Compact fluorescent lampand then correct thinking about China's future path and his life philosophy and values. In other words, different people will have gained what they need. The point is the same, that is, "China Dream" will bring about a dream for the people of the world, rather than the nightmare of the past.

Whenever the said dream, we often#x used to dream of it as a nightmare or a dream of return, if we are in this traditional, either-or mode of thinking to read, judge the "China Dream", then it will certainly be very disappointed , because this is one full of dialectical thinking "Dream", the nightmare has dreams may not be so-called "nightmare" there is no dream.

Frankly speaking, reading by the National Defense University professor Liu Mingfu written by "China Dream" a book before, so I pre-empt the initiation of a book may#x be the kind of propaganda and military power, or the nationalist sentiments of the misconception of dreams. Because I do not like the "Dream", which does not meet our country's grand strategy of peaceful development. However, when I am reading the book, you can see it is reviewing and summarizing the history and face the reality and the dream of the future of rational, Compact fluorescent lampprogressive dream, the reality of the dream, dream of peace, be prepared dream, non-insular nationalism the doctrine of dream, nor is it a simple dream of a military power, but rather a world of peace and orderly competition dreams. By his profound knowledge structure and a unique dialectical thinking, for us to depict the dream of the future of China, in particular, is the author of history to make a correct analysis and presentation of the dialectical way of thinking is not only useful for dealing with inter-State relations, dealing with ordinary people of our readers, family and social relationships, as well as commercial interest in the re-positioning is not without help.

"China Dream" In reviewing the modern history of China over 100 years of humiliation and backwardness, the authors think that China is how to re-embark on the road to recovery problems, China should Gairuhezou own big "strategic" issues, this "strategy" is not a simple military strategy, but ratherCompact fluorescent lamp focus on the strategic culture,Fire hose, strategic thinking, strategic concepts, strategic vision, explore the great goal to establish and realize the inherent logic of the twenty-first century Sino-US strategic competition between the dialectical relationship between, and the peaceful development of and military rise, the rich and strong army, peace and war,#x security and strong, fight the Cold War thinking and thinking, force does not mean war, die with the same deposit and so both antagonistic and symbiotic unification of the dialectical relations, points to China's strategic thinking to a new height to look at all this. [The cycle of innovation and innovation to win the world] First, we look back two thousand years with the world economic map of the changes - in the past long years, China was once the center of the world economy. If you read the Angus Maddison's "World Economic History of the Millennium" will be found that in the Han Dynasty, Tang Dynasty, Song Dynasty, Yuan Dynasty Ming#x Dynasty,Buy in Global, China's GDP has ranked first in the world at that time, China is the world's largest economic entity. However, from theEnergy saving lamp 16th century, civilization from the inland towards the sea, the center of the global economy resulting from China's move to Europe. In particular the mid-18th century, Europe's industrial revolution has accelerated this process.

The Industrial Revolution began in Europe there are two main important factors. The first reason is a Watt steam engine marked the technological revolution; The #xsecondEnergy saving lamp reason is likely that many people do not know - the United Kingdom issued the first-ever a patent protection system, which makes the result of innovation (IPR) can be recognized , thereby creating value, but also so that more people are willing to participate in technological innovation. Innovation "is circulating," the resulting.

By the twentieth century, the world's economic center shifted to the United States. The reason why such changes occur, there are three reasons. First, the two world wars, the United States gradually put together the world's elite, there are Europeans, the Jews, but also Asians, Chinese.#x TheEnergy saving lamp second factor is the Wall Street - a lot of science and engineering students may have more contempt on Wall Street, but the recent international financial crisis is also a disaster from Wall Street, but it is undeniable that the overall economic development in the United States on Wall Street played a big role, it accelerated a catalyst for a whole development of the industry, so that resources and wealth accumulation, distribution and transfer many times faster. Third, the U.S. accounted for in a number of opportunities in emerging industries. From oil, energy, automobiles to integrated circuits, software, networking, life sciences has been true, so the United States as a global technology centers, innovation centers and economic centers, and not surprising.
