I Was Am-Bushed On MSNBC Over Iraq

I Was Am-Bushed On MSNBC Over Iraq I Was Am-Bushed On MSNBC Over Iraq I was invited on MSNBC the other day to discuss Karl Rove’s Custom hockey jerseysbook with anchor Davis Shuster and journalist David Corn of Mother Jones magazine and the author of “The Lies of George W. Bush” only to be am-BUSHED with the worn allegation by the left that President Bush lied his way into war with Iraq.#x

The left is consumed with charges that somehow Bush and his “gang” were able to bamboozle Congress,登车桥, the U.N., and everyone else on the planet with regard to why it was necessary to remove Saddam Hussein from power and bring him to justice. Both Shuster and Corn ganged up on me charging that Bush lied and would not let me get a word in edge wise. They interrupted and would not let me finish a thought. In a desperate attempt to “prove” he was right, Custom hockey jerseysCorn offered to bet me $1,000.00 that he could “prove” Bush lied. And, who was going to be the judge? Yep, you guessed it, David Shuster. Does that not sound like an impartial and “fair and balanced” wager? I think not.

All this in light of the fact that just last month, Vice President Joe Biden went on Larry King and bragged that “Iraq could be one of the greatest achievements of this administration.” #xThis from a man who as a US Senator was against the war and the surge and sided with many Democrats who declared in 2003 that the “war was lost.”

The left distorts the facts with regard to the lead up to the Iraq war to fit their conspiratorial theories. However here are the facts:

*November 1997: Hussein ordered all American weapons inspectors in Iraq to leave in violation of UN Security Council Resolution.

*December 1998: President Bill Clinton orders “Operation Desert Fox” a robust four day aerial bombing mission by US and UK Air Forces. This operation was in retaliation for Iraq’s failure to obey UN Security Council Resolutions and their obstruction of UN Weapons Inspections.

Clinton’s Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said the following about the attack:

"I don't think we're pretending that we can get everything, so this is - I think - we are being very honest about what our ability is. We are lessening, degrading his ability to use this. #xThe weapons of mass destruction are the threat of the future. I think the president explained very clearly to the American people that this is the threat of the 21st century. [. . .] [W]hat it means is that we know we can't get everything,Custom hockey jerseys but degrading is the right word."

It’s My Party, and You Have to Answer

06:04, 1969-Dec-31 .. 0 comments .. Link
It’s My Party, and You Have to Answer It’s My Party, and You Have to Answer HERE’S an etiquette experiment for you: Replica jerseysE-mail an invitation for a party, one month out, to 45 friends. Request an R.S.V.P. Provide a follow-up e-mail message, #xtwo weeks later, politely reminding them to get back to you.

How many will?

My experiment arose from plans for an evening of food, drink and literature, with readings by myself and two other writers, at a restaurant. Not exactly a drop-in-if-you’re-around kind of thing, so I asked friends to R.S.V.P. My initial message brought in a dozen responses,Fire hose, and the follow-up a few more, but days before the event I had a paltry 23. Not 23 who planned to come, but 23 who had bothered to respond. Half my invitees had blown me off. Why? I wasn’t peddling life insurance, after all.

Asking around, I discovered that the phenomenon is widespread.Replica jerseys One friend of mine e-mailed invitations to a baby shower, and a third of the recipients failed to respond. Another announced a happy hour at her house and received a dozen yeses — only to find her party besieged by 35 people.

What’s preventing us from executing this basic social task?#x Is it the medium? Do Evites somehow not feel like “real” invitations? Is it our busy lives, so overbooked and overwhelmed we’ve drawn up the castle gates? Don’t invite me out this month, I’m ensconced! Or is it simple rudeness? Try as I might to understand, I kept feeling dissed.

What’s clear is how hard the R.S.V.P. rubs against the grain of contemporary life. In requesting people to anchor a plan in the distant future of a month hence, you are demanding a kind of navigation that Americans increasingly do not practice. We prefer to remain flexy, solidifying our plans incrementally as the date approaches. Let’s talk tomorrow. I’ll call you when I’m on the road. Cellphones in hand, we microadjust our schedules as they unfold around us. We’re like the air traffic controllers of our own lives.

It wasn’t always so. A while ago I made a lunch date with an elderly couple. As the day approached with no subsequent corroboration, I felt a strange excitement. Would all three of us just show up? We did, and I realized that what I felt was a small nostalgic thrill over social arrangements that seemed straight out of Jane Austen.

But back to my party. The day before the big event, I sent a final e-mail message, Replica jerseysthanking “the half of you who responded for helping keep the dying art of the R.S.V.P. alive.”#x This irked missive flushed out a final 10 hangdog respondents. But there remained a gang of 12 — the dirty dozen, the truly hardcore, fanatical nonresponders — who couldn’t even be shamed into R.S.V.P.ing.

New HIV infections increasing among homosexuals

New HIV infections increasing among homosexuals New HIV infections increasing among homosexuals New HIV infections are increasing among homosexuals, fragrance Potpourridrug users and prostitutes who don't seek help because of laws that criminalize these practices, the head of the U.N. AIDS agency said Monday.

Michel Sidibe, the head of UNAIDS,#x said "it is unacceptable" that 85 countries still have laws criminalizing same sex relations among adults, including seven that impose the death penalty for homosexual practices.

He called a proposed Ugandan law that would impose the death penalty for some gays "very unfortunate" and expressed hope it will never be approved.

At a time when UNAIDS is scaling up its program and seeking universal access to HIV treatment, Sidibe said he was "very scared" because bad laws are being introduced by countries making it impossible for these at risk groups to have access to services.

"You have also a growing conservatism which is making me very scared,Grow lights," Sidibe added.

"We must insist that the rights of the minorities are upheld. If we don't do that ... I think the epidemic will grow again," he warned. "We cannot accept the tyranny of the majority."

Sidibe told a group of journalists at a luncheon hosted by the United Nations Foundation that in countries from China to Kenya and Malawi, about 33 percent of new HIV infections are in men having sex with men,#x a significant increase. By contrast, he said that in the Caribbean where most countries don't have repressive laws, fragrance Potpourrionly between 3 and 6 percent of HIV infections are in male homosexuals.

Even in the United States, where laws are not restrictive and the gay community was the first to tackle AIDS, Sidibe said it is "shocking" that more than 50 percent of new HIV infections last year occurred among homosexuals. And he said in the 19-25 age bracket the infection rate was even higher.

"It seems like we have come full circle" in the United States, fragrance Potpourrihe said. "After almost no cases a few years ago we are seeing again this new peak among people who are not having access to all the information, the protection that is needed." In addition to failing to adequately deliver the right messages about AIDS prevention, #xSidibe blamed complacency in a new generation that has access to treatment.

He added that this was not just a problem in the U.S. but in Europe and in Africa as well.

Sidibe said drug users are also getting the HIV virus that causes AIDS in high numbers.

Court says thimerosal did not cause autism

Court says thimerosal did not cause autism Court says thimerosal did not cause autism The vaccine additive thimerosal is not to blame for autism, #xa special federal court ruled Friday in a long-running battle by parents convinced there is a connection.

christmas decorations While expressing sympathy for the parents involved in the emotionally charged cases, the court concluded they had failed to show a connection between the mercury-containing preservative and autism.

“Such families must cope every day with tremendous challenges in caring for their autistic *****ren, and all are deserving of sympathy and admiration,登车桥,” special master George Hastings Jr., wrote.

But, he added, Congress designed the victim compensation program only for families whose injuries or deaths can be shown to be linked to a vaccine and that has not been done in this case.#x

The ruling came in the socalled vaccine court, a special branch of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims established to handle claims of injury from vaccines. It can be appealed in federal court.christmas decorations

Friday’s decision that autism is not caused by thimerosal alone follows a parallel ruling in 2009 that autism is not caused by the combination of vaccines with thimerosal and other vaccines.

The new ruling was welcomed by Dr. Paul Offit of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, who said the autism theory had “already had its day in science court and failed to hold up.”

But the controversy has cast a pall over vaccines, causing some parents to avoid them, he noted, “it’s very hard to unscare people after you have scared them.”

Meanwhile, christmas decorationsin reaction to the concerns of parents, #xthimerosal has been removed from most vaccines in the United States.

Bacterial trail may be next forensic clue

Bacterial trail may be next forensic clue Bacterial trail may be next forensic clue Forget fingerprint dusting. Crime-scene drama fans might soon see a new forensic technique debut on their favorite TV series: hand-germ testing.artificial fruits

According to a study published online Monday, bacteria that live on a person's hands could one day accurately identify that individual. This could come in handy to track down a criminal who has worn gloves, #xremoved prints and other personal physical evidence, or touched surfaces such as fabric on which a fingerprint wouldn't show up, the researchers said.

The concept, outlined in a paper in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, relies upon the fact that human beings leave a trail of bacteria on objects they touch and that the mix of microbes on each person's hand is highly individualized.

"There's a rain forest of bacteria on your skin," said lead author Noah Fierer, an assistant professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Colorado at Boulder. A human hand can contain on average about 100 different species of bacteria, he said, and only about 13% of that makeup is shared between any two people.

Fierer and colleagues compared the bacteria found on people's computer mice with a database of bacteria collected from the hands of 270 individuals.#x The bacterial colonies from the computer mice most closely matched those of the owner's hands,NCR parts, the scientists found.

The technique was 70% to 90% accurate overall, artificial fruits but this could be sharpened as technology becomes more sophisticated, Fierer said.

Other problems would have to be worked out as well. For example, if more than one person has touched an object, it isn't yet possible to sort out their mixed-up bacterial signatures, said David A. Relman, a Stanford University professor who has studied the signatures left by gut and mouth bacteria.

Also, Relman said, the distribution of bacterial species might change once the microbes have left the human hand, making the pattern less easy to link to a person.

"It's intriguing because it suggests a new approach to forensics,"#x said Dr. Martin J. Blaser, chairman of medicine at New York University, who wrote a commentary accompanying the report.artificial fruits However, he said, "this is not ready for prime time."

Brain scans show signs of early Alzheimer's: study

Brain scans show signs of early Alzheimer's: study Brain scans show signs of early Alzheimer's: study They said the findings could lead to new ways to identify people most likely to develop Alzheimer's disease, #xwhen there is still time to do something about it.

"The hope is to one day be able to diagnose very clearly the Alzheimer's disease process before any symptoms occur, when the brain is still healthy. Then the treatments would have the best chance of success,Compact fluorescent lamp," artificial fruitsaid Lisa Moscone of New York University Langone Medical Center, whose study appears in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The team wants to continue to follow the people in the study to see whether they develop dementia, and they want to replicate the findings in a much larger study.

Several teams have been working on better ways to detect early-stage Alzheimer's disease in hopes of developing drugs that can fight it before it causes too much damage.

Current treatments cannot reverse the course of Alzheimer's, a mind-robbing form of dementia that affects more than 26 million people globally.

Moscone's team used an imaging technique called positron emission tomography or PET with a fluorescent dye called Pittsburgh Compound B that lights up clumps of a protein called beta amyloid that are a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease.#x

The team imaged the brains of 42 people with an average age of 65,artificial fruit all with healthy brain function. Of these, 14 people had mothers who had Alzheimer's; 14 had fathers with the disease; and 14 had parents with healthy brain function.

Brain scans of all 42 showed that those whose parents -- either fathers or mothers -- had Alzheimer's were more likely to have amyloid plaques in their brains.

This was especially true of people whose mothers had Alzheimer's.

"They have pretty much 20 percent more amyloid beta deposits in their brains. In other words, they had an almost four times greater risk for amyloid beta pathology," Moscone said in a telephone interview.

The finding confirms other studies that suggest having a mother with Alzheimer's may be a greater risk factor.

"It looks like if you have maternal history of Alzheimer's disease, the risk of amyloid beta plaque and a reduction in brain activity is much greater as compared to having a father affected," Moscone said.

After advanced age, a family history of Alzheimer's is the single biggest risk factor for developing the disease.

Not everyone who has beta amyloid plaques in their brain develops Alzheimer's disease,#x but Moscone said having the plaques does increase the risk.artificial fruit

So why can't Kate Winslet make her marriages work?

06:04, 1969-Dec-31 .. 0 comments .. Link
So why can't Kate Winslet make her marriages work? So why can't Kate Winslet make her marriages work? Word has it that she isn't - by Hollywood standards, Tarpsanyway - a diva. And there's no doubt in anyone's mind that she's a great mother, as well as a great beauty. #xSo why is it that Kate Winslet's romantic history has been so dismal? To discard one husband (less successful, less glamorous) may be considered par for the course as a rising star moves up the movie ranks, but to lose two in the space of a decade is perhaps rather unfortunate.

People who know - and like - Kate Winslet say, by way of explanation, that she is every bit as intense off screen as she is on it.

She is 'fierce' in an argument and is a woman of stubborn loyalties and intense passions - you are either within her inner circle or she never wishes to speak to you again.

'There's nothing that Kate loves more than a roll-up cigarette and a good row,' says one who has known her since she was a teenager

And it has been obvious since last spring that all was far from well between her and Sam Mendes:Tarps Unusually, for Kate, she has sat on her feelings - it has taken the best part of a year for them to admit to their separation. The signs were there, however, for all to see: #xShe failed to thank him when she won her Bafta for The Reader - an omission she was careful to make up at last year's Oscars, which he attended with her.

During this year's awards season, she was notably pale and thin. She did not go to any of the post-Oscars parties, and clung closely to her beloved father Roger during the Baftas melee. There was no sign of Sam whatsoever,Carbon fiber hood, his absence explained away by the fact that he was 'busy' elsewhere.

Kate, on the other hand, appears to have done her utmost to support her husband - publicly, at least - and right from the very start of their relationship.

When they had been together only a short while in 2001 she attended the premiere of his film The Road To Perdition even though it meant crossing the Atlantic and back in a day so she could return to her movie.

'It's called being a committed girlfriend,' she said that night,#x albeit with a detectable wince. Even at that early stage, there was already a strong indication that Kate was the one doing the running in the relationship.

For although we may think of Kate Winslet as a great catch - Oscar-winning star,Tarps a leading lady of true talent - in the movie world there has always been a great deal of buzz about Sam Mendes, and the reality is that from the word go, Kate has had to work hard to keep up.

Toyota dismisses Calif. man's runaway Prius report

Toyota dismisses Calif. man's runaway Prius report Toyota dismisses Calif. man's runaway Prius report Toyota Motor Corp. was quiet last week when James Sikes #xtold reportersTeaching apparatus how the gas pedal got stuck on his 2008 Prius, leading him on a wild ride on a Southern California freeway.

Now the Japanese automaker is talking at length about how its tests don't support Sikes' version of events, and the driver is quiet.

Toyota says its tests showed the car's gas pedal, backup safety system and electronics were working fine. It was unable to replicate the stuck gas pedal that Sikes reported.

The automaker said Monday that it found Sikes rapidly Teaching apparatuspressed the gas and brakes back and forth 250 times, the maximum amount of data that the car's self-diagnostic system can collect. That account appears to contradict Sikes' statements — backed by the California Highway Patrol — that he slammed the brakes, even lifting his buttocks off the seat.

Toyota officials said they believed Sikes hit the pedals lightly, which would have prevented a brake-override system from kicking in. Under the Prius design,网站优化, engine power is cut if the brake pedal is pressed with moderate force.

Toyota stopped short of saying that Sikes fabricated his story.

"We have no opinion on his account, what he's been saying, other than the scenario is not consistent with the technical findings," spokesman Mike Michels said at a news conference.

Why no one cares about privacy anymore

Why no one cares about privacy anymore Why no one cares about privacy anymore Google co-founder Sergey Brin adores the company's Pearl earringssocial network called Google Buzz#x. We know this because an engineer working five feet from Brin used Google Buzz to say so.

"I just finished eating dinner with Sergey and four other Buzz engineers in one of Google's cafes," engineer John Costigan wrote a day after the Twitter-and-Facebook-esque service was announced. "He was particularly impressed with the smooth launch and the great media response it generated."

You might call Brin's enthusiasm premature,Compact fluorescent lamp, especially since privacy criticisms prompted Google to make a series of quick changes a few days later. Activists have asked the Federal Trade Commission to "compel" Google to reprogram Buzz a third time to adhere to the no doubt well-informed specifications of Beltway lawyers. A class action lawsuit filed on behalf of an aggrieved second-year law student is underway.

But a funny thing happened on thePearl earrings way to the courthouse: relatively few Google Buzz users seem to mind. Within four days of its launch, millions of people proved Brin right by using the messaging service to publish 9 million posts. A backlash to the backlash developed, with more thoughtful commentators pointing out that Google Buzz disclosed your "followers" and who you were "following" only if you had elected to publish that information publicly on your Google profile in the first place.

My hunch is that Google Buzz will continue to grow because, after nearly a decade of social-networking experiences (its great-granddaddy, Friendster, started in early 2002), Internet users have grown accustomed to informational exhibitionism. The default setting for a Buzz message is public, and Buzz-ers using mobile phones are prompted to disclose their locations.

Norms are changing, with confidentiality giving way to openness. Participating in YouTube, Loopt, FriendFeed, Flickr, and other elements of modern digital society means giving up some privacy, yet millions of people are willing to make that trade-off every day. Of people with an online profile, nearly 40 percent have disabled privacy settings so anyone may view it, according to a Pew Internet survey released a year ago. The percentage is probably higher today.

No doubt critics of Google Buzz would reply that accidental disclosure of some correspondents was ample reason to worry. While it's true that privacy options at first were not as obvious as they could have been, they did exist. Even the original version let you edit the "auto-following" list and preview your profile to see how you'd appear Pearl earringsto others. (If you're that sensitive about your privacy, especially#x on a free service, why not take a moment to click that link?)

European officials hold off on bailout package for Greece European officials hold off on bailout package for Greece LONDON -- European finance chiefs failed to produce a detailed bailout Diamond bladesplan for Greece #xon Monday but laid the groundwork for a potential rescue if the financial situation in the troubled Mediterranean nation deteriorates sharply.

Analysts had hoped that a meeting in Brussels of finance ministers from the 16 nations that use the euro would yield a long-awaited plan to aid Greece, which is struggling to calm investors. Greece needs to borrow $74 billion this year to plug its budget deficit and avoid a default that could send bond and currency markets reeling in Europe and beyond.

But some European governments blame Greece for driving itself Diamond bladesinto a financial hole and remain deeply reluctant to let it off too lightly.

In a sign of that reluctance, the finance ministers who met Monday said merely that they had reached agreement on possible ways to aid Greece that did not violate European Union laws. The E.U. is prohibited from lending money to member nations to plug budget shortfalls, meaning that any rescue package for Greece would have to be tailored in a careful manner.

On the Road to a Smart Grid On the Road to a Smart Grid “Smart grid” is an exciting term that comes up a lot these days. But #xwhatHalogen bulb does it actually mean? I sat down last week with Roger Duncan, general manager of Austin Energy, one of the most innovative utilities in the nation.

Taking a wide view of the electric grid of the future — one that will likely see increased demand from electrified cars — Mr. Duncan envisions a triangle of consumption and production, its three points being the utility; homes and buildings; and the transportation sector.

In the old model, Mr. Duncan said, the utility simply produced the electricity, delivering it over transmission lines to commercial and residential customers who used it.

“And then you had a transportation sector completely disconnected thatHalogen bulb ran off petroleum,” he said.

Now, the utility and its customers are developing a much more symbiotic relationship, with more and more homes and businesses,网站优化, for instance, placing solar panels on their rooftops, allowing them to generate energy that utilities can purchase and redistribute. Essentially, said Mr. Duncan, utilities and customers alike are becoming both consumers and producers of electricity.

Meanwhile, the the transportation sector is slowly becoming part of the electricity equation.

Very slowly. Currently there are only several hundred plug-in hybrid cars in the nation, and Mr. Duncan reckons that large-scale adoption could take another decade. But one day the transportation sector, too, may act as both a consumer and a producer of electricity, if plug-ins become a reality. Not only will they run on electricity, but#x the energy stored in their charged batteries could be tapped at hours when Halogen bulbthe grid needs it.

The delinquency rates likely received a seasonal boost, but nonetheless signal the card issuers are less likely to have to write off bad loans in the future. Charge-offs are loans the companies do not expect to be repaid.

The data build on similar figures in January and December, suggesting U.S. consumers may be clawing out of the recession brought on by the 2008-2009 financial crisis.

"Clearly the delinquency trends are improving, and they have been for the last couple months. The question is, particularly in February, how much of it is a seasonal benefit," said Michael Taiano, analyst at Sandler O'Neill.

After all, the past year was topsy-turvy, from the highs of an unprecedented lending binge to the hangover that followed in the form of sorely frayed balance sheets.

The biggest banks are nearly through with a heavy dose of fund-raising to repair the damage and there is no longer a big shortage of capital in the sector, Chinese banking executives said during the past two weeks on the sidelines of the country's annual session of parliament.

Chinese banks made a record 9.6 trillion yuan ($1.406 trillion)Ray Ban in new loans last year, fuelling concerns that they were sowing the seeds of a new crop of bad debts down the road.

One of last year's most eager lenders, China Merchants Bank (3968.HK) (600036.SS), exemplified the sense of relief. After a $3.2 billion rights issue, the country's sixth-largest bank is confident that it will be in good shape.

"This should be sufficient for the next three years," Qin Xiao, Merchants Bank chairman, said in one of many interviews by bank executives on the sidelines of the parliament that officially wrapped up on Sunday.

Chavez is angry with Venezuelan political opinion and gossip website Noticierodigital, which he said had falsely written that Diosdado Cabello, a senior minister and close aide, had been assassinated. The president said the story remained on the site for two days.

Doctors fail to cut cholesterol enough,<a href="http://www.handmadesword.com">samurai swords</a> Doctors fail to cut cholesterol enough (Reuters) - Only half of patients at high risk of heart disease artificial appleare given the right targets#x for cutting their cholesterol and millions may suffer heart attack or stroke due to doctors' poor advice, scientists said on Thursday.

German researchers said that over 10 years, around 50 to 80 heart attacks, strokes and heart disease-related deaths per 1,000 patients could be averted if all doctors correctly followed guidelines on cholesterol-lowering targets.

"The numbers highlight the enormous health implications ... in our findings," said Heribert Schunkert, who led the study into more than 25,000 patients in Germany.

Drugs called statins, like Pfizer's Lipitor or AstraZeneca's

"Efforts should be made to make guidelines simpler and easier to understand and follow, instruments to identify high-risk patients more easily should be developed, and special attention should be paid to women," he wrote in a commentary on the study, which was published in the European Heart Journal.

Heart disease is the number one killer of men and women Europe, the United States and other industrialized nations and high cholesterol in the blood plays a major part in it.
