How We Got Everyone Focused on Cash Flow

How We Got Everyone Focused on Cash Flow How We Got Everyone Focused on Cash Flow In my last post I talked about how, every year, Safety barricadeswe pick a critical number #xor ratio to improve. This year, we’re focusing on cash flow. The idea is to pick a metric that we’ve been doing poorly on, compared with our competition, and turn it around. We do that by tying everyone’s bonus plan to our performance.

We set up the plan in such a way as to allow people to receive a portion of their bonus each quarter. By doing this, we provide both motivation and instant gratification. Most programs are designed to just pay out the bonus when the company closes it books for the year. The problem with that approach is that people wait until the third or fourth quarter to start making changes because that’s when they begin to think about getting their bonus. It’s human nature to put things off until something gets close. We found a way around that.

Let’s say that someone’s bonus would be 15 percent of his or her annual salary, including overtime. As an example, let’s say the bonus would be $15,000. Well, if the company meets its goal early when it comes to the critical number, say in February, we would pay 10 percent of the bonus pool ($1,500) at the end of March. If Safety barricadeswe stay on track, we would pay an additional 20 percent ($3,000) at the end of the second quarter, an additional 30 percent ($4,500) for the third quarter, and finally, whatever we need to pay that gets us to 100 percent ($6,000,Metal halide lamps, in this case) at the end of the year.

We structured it this way to give people a taste along the way — to keep the critical number at the top of everyone’s mind from the very beginning. If we don’t hit the target until the end of the year, though, the associates still get paid 100 percent of their bonus. At the same time, if we hit our target in the first quarter, but fall off at the end of the year, we still pay out that 10 percent. We won’t take away something the associates #xhave already earned. Sure, we’re gambling by doing this, but we’ve also decreased our risks Safety barricadesby making the bonus small on the front end and increasing it over time.

Police: Woman Crashes Car While Shaving Bikini Area Police: Woman Crashes Car While Shaving Bikini Area Such is the case in the Florida Keys, Interactive whiteboardwhere police say a 37-year-old woman crashed her 1995 Ford Thunderbird into another car as she attempted to shave her bikini area.

According to the arrest report, on March 2, Megan Mariah Barnes told Florida State Trooper Gary Dunick that she was on her way to Key West to meet her boyfriend, and that she "wanted to be ready for the visit." #xSo, police say she had her ex-husband, Charles Judy, who was riding in the passenger seat,Buy in Global, take the wheel while she attended to her pubic hair. The results weren't pretty. Going 45 mph, Barnes and Judy are said to have rear-ended a car that had slowed to make a left turn.

"It is unbelievable," Dunick said. "I'm really starting to believe this stuff only happens in the Keys."

Director says NHTSA responded properly on Toyota's

Director says NHTSA responded properly on Toyota's problems Director says NHTSA responded properly on Toyota's problems The chief of the nation's auto safety regulators rejected criticism on Thursday that his agency made mistakes and responded too slowly to years of complaints regarding runaway Toyotas.

David L. Strickland, Beadsadministrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, also denied in testimony before a House committee that the agency had become a "lap dog" for the car industry rather than a watchdog protecting the American public.

"From my review of the work done, if we're talking about Toyota specifically,#x this agency opened eight separate investigations over the time period when there were complaints about sudden acceleration," Strickland said. "A lap dog doesn't open eight investigations."

The hearing before the House Energy and Commerce Committee,ATM Parts, Beadsthe fourth congressional hearing in recent weeks involving NHTSA and the safety of Toyota cars, was meant to review the agency's actions and whether it has enough funding, personnel and legal authority to investigate defects in the industry.

The 600-plus-person agency has plans to add 66 people under its proposed budget. #x Strickland is also exploring whether it might need more legal authority to regulate the modern, more international auto industry.

As for new regulations, the government might make brake override systems mandatory, which would allow a driver to stop a car even if the throttle is stuck open. It is also considering requiring event data recorders, or "black boxes," that would save information about the car's operation in the event of a crash -- a device many cars already feature.

But lawmakers have differed over threshold questions regarding the Toyota controversy, such as whether NHTSA and Toyota have failed to meet their responsibilities.

In opening his testimony, Strickland reported that traffic fatalities had fallen 8.9 percent to 33,963 in 2009, which he said was the lowest annual level since 1954.

"NHTSA's programs work, and they work well," he said.

The agency has faced a wave of criticism that it has been too close to the industry it regulates. #x Two former NHTSA regulators work for Toyota's Washington office. BeadsAnd although the agency has conducted eight investigations into reports on unintended acceleration, as Strickland noted, most of those inquiries were closed without a finding of a defect.

Senators give Obama bipartisan plan on immigration Senators give Obama bipartisan plan on immigration Reporting from Washington -Diamond Polishing pads A pair of influential senators presented President Obama with a three-page blueprint for a bipartisan agreement to overhaul the nation's immigration system,Compact fluorescent lamp, #xbut the proposal's viability is threatened by politics surrounding the healthcare debate.

Sens. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), in a 45-minute meeting Thursday in the Oval Office, also asked for Obama's help in rounding up enough Republican votes to pass an immigration bill this year.

Although details of their blueprint were not released, Graham said the elements include tougher border security, a program to admit temporary immigrant workers and a biometric Social Security card that would prevent people here illegally from getting jobs.

Graham also said the proposal includes "a rational plan to deal with the millions of illegal immigrants already in the United States." He did not elaborate on what the plan would be.Diamond Polishing pads But in a recent interview, he suggested that onerous measures are unrealistic.

"We're not going to mass-deport people and put them in jail,#x nor should we," Graham said. "But we need a system so they don't get an advantage over others for citizenship."

In a statement after the Obama meeting, Graham predicted that their effort would collapse if Senate Democrats proceeded with a strategy to pass a healthcare bill through a simple majority vote -- a process known as "reconciliation." Senate leaders say they are committed to doing just that.

"I expressed, in no uncertain terms, my belief that immigration reform could come to a halt for the year if health care reconciliation goes forward," said Graham, who portrayed the document handed to Obama as "a work in progress."

Graham added: "For more than a year, #xhealth care has sucked most of the energy out of the room.Diamond Polishing pads Using reconciliation to push health care through will make it much harder for Congress to come together on a topic as important as immigration."

NYC to pay up to $657M to settle WTC health cases

NYC to pay up to $657M to settle WTC health cases NYC to pay up to $657M to settle WTC health cases NEW YORK — After years of fighting in court, lawyers representing the city, construction companies and more than 10,000 ground zero rescue and recovery workers have agreed to a settlement that could pay up to $657.5 million to responders sickened by dust from the destroyed World Trade Center.

The settlement was announced Thursday evening by the WTC Captive Insurance Co., #xa special entity established to indemnify the city and its contractors against potential legal action as they moved to clean up the site after the Sept. 11, 2001, Softgelsterror attacks.

The deal, which still must be approved by a judge and the workers themselves, would make the city and other companies represented by the insurer liable for a minimum of $575 million, with more money available to the sick if certain conditions are met.

Most if not all of the money would come out of a $1 billion grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg called the settlement "a fair and reasonable resolution to a complex set of circumstances." "The resolution of the World Trade Center litigation will allow the first responders and workers to be compensated for injuries suffered following their work at Ground Zero," Bloomberg said in a statement.

Marc Bern, a senior partner with the law firm Worby, Groner,#x Edelman & Napoli, Bern LLP, which negotiated the deal, said it was "a good settlement."

"We are gratified that these heroic men and women who performed their duties without consideration of the health implications will finally receive just compensation for their pain and suffering, Softgelslost wages, medical and other expenses, as the U.S. Congress intended when it appropriated this money," he said in a statement.

Workers who wish to participate in the settlement would need to prove they had been at the World Trade Center site or other facilities that handled debris. They also would have to turn over medical records and provide other information aimed at weeding out fraudulent or dubious claims.

For the settlement to be enforced, 95 percent of the workers would need to agree to be bound by its terms.

The agreement comes with just two months to go until the first trials are to begin in the case. Thousands of police officers, firefighters and construction workers who put in time at the 16-acre site in lower Manhattan had filed lawsuits against the city,Construction Equipment, claiming it sent them to ground zero without proper protective equipment.

Many of those workers now claim to have fallen ill. A majority complained of a respiratory problem similar to asthma,Softgels but the suits also sought damages for hundreds of other types of ailments,#x including cancer.

The Great Prostate Mistake

06:03, 1969-Dec-31 .. 0 comments .. Link
The Great Prostate Mistake The Great Prostate Mistake EACH year some 30 million American men undergo testing for prostate-specific antigen, GPS trackeran enzyme made by the prostate. Approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 1994, #xthe P.S.A. test is the most commonly used tool for detecting prostate cancer.

The test’s popularity has led to a hugely expensive public health disaster. It’s an issue I am painfully familiar with — I discovered P.S.A. in 1970. As Congress searches for ways to cut costs in our health care system, a significant savings could come from changing the way the antigen is used to screen for prostate cancer.

Americans spend an enormous amount testing for prostate cancer. The annual bill for P.S.A. screening is at least $3 billion, with much of it paid for by Medicare and the Veterans Administration.

Prostate cancer may get a lot of press, but consider the numbers: American men have a 16 percent lifetime chance of receiving a diagnosis of prostate cancer, but only a 3 percent chance of dying from it. GPS trackerThat’s because the majority of prostate cancers grow slowly. In other words, #xmen lucky enough to reach old age are much more likely to die with prostate cancer than to die of it.

Even then, the test is hardly more effective than a coin toss. As I’ve been trying to make clear for many years now, P.S.A. testing can’t detect prostate cancer and, more important, it can’t distinguish between the two types of prostate cancer — the one that will kill you and the one that won’t.

Instead, the test simply reveals how much of the prostate antigen a man has in his blood. Infections, over-the-counter drugs like ibuprofen, and benign swelling of the prostate can all elevate a man’s P.S.A. levels, google优化,#x but none of these factors signals cancer. Men with low readings might still harbor dangerous cancers, GPS trackerwhile those with high readings might be completely healthy.

Energy saving bulbs Energy saving bulbs That may sound like a joke, but to the members of the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital, it's no laughing matter. The group has challenged its 63,000 members,#x ages 5 to 17,Energy saving bulb to each replace one regular light bulb with an energy-saving bulb. The project has just begun, and already troops from the District, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia have changed nearly 1,000 bulbs. Some girls have changed far more than their share.

"In just our house, about 15," said Brooke Milligan, 9, as she counted in her head the number of bulbs she has replaced at her home in the District.

"We've changed about five, but we're going to do more," Energy saving bulbsaid Sekai Bonner-Flagg, 9, also of Washington.

So why is something as simple as changing a light bulb a big deal?

For one thing,Metal halide lamps, traditional bulbs use a lot of electricity. In the typical home, lighting accounts for about 20 percent of the total energy use. More-efficient light bulbs, sometimes called compact fluorescent, or CFL, bulbs, use about 75 percent less electricity than standard incandescent bulbs, #xand they last up to 10 times as long. According to the government, if every home in America replaced just one incandescent bulb a year with an energy-saving variety,Energy saving bulb it would cut down on so much pollution that it would be like taking 800,000 cars off the road.

It also saves money: If every local Girl Scout replaced just one light bulb, according to the organization, those homes would save nearly $300,000 a year in energy costs. (That's about $4.76 per house.)

The national Girl Scouts organization has made helping the environment one of its core missions. Troop leaders nationwide have taken on this task in different ways, encouraging girls to work in community gardens or start recycling programs in schools, for example.

Bullets Flying Over Abortion Coverage in Health Reform Bill

It's high noon for abortion coverage in the health reform bill, and the pistols are drawn, U.S. MoldNews's Deborah Kotz writes. Who will win the duel over abortions if and when a final bill is passed remains to be seen. Simply put, abortion-rights activists want the language in any final healthcare bill to allow insurance plans in the federal exchange system to provide abortion coverage as part of their comprehensive plans. Those opposed to abortion don't want any plans in the exchange to offer abortion coverage.#x The Senate bill and the White House tweaks to it that will be the basis of the final reconciliation bill contain language that's something of a compromise—allowing abortion coverage but with restrictions.

Planned Parenthood, which supports abortion coverage, fired off a missive last week from President Cecile Richards, who said that she wasn't happy with either the House bill or the Senate version. "Under the burdensome Nelson provision in the Senate healthcare reform bill," Richards said in an E-mailed statement,DVD Ripper, "it is anticipated that most private health insurers would no longer offer coverage for abortion. Since most women with private health insurance have coverage for abortion, the Nelson provision would take away coverage that women have now." The Nelson provision does allow plans to offer coverage, but it requires every enrollee who wants it to write a separate check for it. #x

Still, it proved that, at 46 and fabulous, Sandra Bullock is here to stay.

Sandra — or as she is affectionately addressed by her friends, "Sandy" — was born in Arlington, Virginia on the outskirts of Washington, DC. Her mother was a German opera singer and her father a voice coach, so she spent much of her youth on the road around Germany and other parts of Europe and participated in a number of choirs. However, after Sandra graduated high school she decided to study acting at East Carolina University in North Carolina.

Three credits short of graduating, Sandra moved to New York in 1986 to pursue her acting career. She landed her first role in 1987's "Hangman," NCR partsbut didn't really make a splash on the film scene until 1993 when she starred as Lieutenant Lenina Huxley in "Demolition Man" #x(this role also earned Sandra her first Razzie nomination).

John Roberts gets it right (for once)

    06:03, 1969-Dec-31 .. 0 comments .. Link
John Roberts gets it right (for once) John Roberts gets it right (for once) Chief Justice John Roberts is wrong about a lot of things — most things, hats, Translation?Qingdaoactually — but he may be right when he suggests that he and his black-robed colleagues should give the State of the Union address a pass. #xTheir presence looks like a tradition whose time has come and gone.

“To the extent the State of the Union has degenerated into a political pep rally, I’m not sure why we’re there,” Roberts said Tuesday at the University of Alabama, elucidating the obvious. Politics? At the State of the Union? Let’s all pause for a moment while we get over the shock.

Roberts was complaining about the moment in January’s speech when President Obama blasted the court’s anything-goes decision on campaign finance. Six justices were in attendance, including three who voted with the majority; Justice Samuel Alito couldn’t keep himself from mouthing the words “not true” and shaking his head. Much comment ensued.

“The image of having the members of one branch of government standing up, literally surrounding the Supreme Court, cheering and hollering while the court — according to the requirements of protocol — #xhas to sit there expressionless, I think is very troubling,” Roberts said told a group of ’Bama law students.

He’s got a point. Obama had every right to call the justices out for a decision that he (and, ahem, many others) believes was wrong. But, as The Post's Eva Rodriguez noted this afternoon, in such a political atmosphere it’s unrealistic to expect the targets of presidential wrath to sit like cyborgs,Translation?Qingdao betraying not a hint of reaction. I would go further, and ask whether it is necessary, or even appropriate, for them to go at all.

It’s not as if Alito did the full Joe Wilson and yelled “You lie!” or even “You misinterpret the equal protection clause!” He shook his head and muttered — and even in a setting of such high ceremony, some allowance has to be made for muttering.

But really, what are the justices doing there anyway? The State of the Union is an occasion for the president to lay out his agenda. The Supremes’ work shouldn’t be affected by anything the president says. Their only role is as props, their presence a reminder that our government has a third, less visible, branch. A better way to bring home this civics lesson would be for the court to allow oral arguments and other proceedings to be televised. Then the nation would learn something.

On State of the Union night, the justices can get together at the courthouse,#x order some takeout and watch the whole thing on the tube. Translation?QingdaoThey’ll be free to cheer and boo all they want, just like the rest of us.

Oldest Known Flying ‘Car’ Up for Auction

Oldest Known Flying ‘Car’ Up for Auction Oldest Known Flying ‘Car’ Up for Auction It doesn’t look like a car, and it doesn’t look like it would fly, but energy saving lampwhat is believed to be the world’s oldest “roadable aircraft” #xis for sale.

The antique was built in 1934 by Frank Skroback and at the very minimum provides proof that people have long dreamed of cars that can be flown like airplanes. Or are they airplanes that can be driven like cars? No matter, because whatever you call it, it’s being auctioned this weekend in Atlanta.

In addition to the wild machine, the winning bidder scores extensive documentation, including the 1921 patent on the design and correspondence demonstrating Skroback’s attempt to sell his vehicle.

This isn’t the first flying carenergy saving lamp to hit the block. A Taylor Aerocar was auctioned more than a year ago. The Taylor is probably the most famous — and successful — example of an aircraft you can drive. Or car you can fly. Unlike the Aerocar, nobody can seem to find proof of Skroback’s vehicle ever taking flight. It looks like little more than a fuselage with six small wings attached.

Red Baron’s Antiques, which is selling the plane, says it is 21 feet long, and each wing has a 7-foot span. Those wings look like they may come up a bit short in providing enough lift. But even if the wings could lift the stubby fuselage off the ground, a lack of any substantial vertical control surfaces would likely mean controlled flight would be tricky at best. There are some small rudder-like appendages on the rear wings, but they hardly look big enough to provide any sort of directional stability.

No word on what the engine is, but with the the obvious drag and small wings#x, our guess is that it had better be more powerful than it appears if this thing has any hope of even getting the tail wheel off the ground. It’s safe to say the guys at Terrafugia have nothing to worry aboutenergy saving lamp, google排名, in terms of somebody putting Skroback’s contraption into production.

Grow lights Grow lights Pennsylvania's Lower Merion School District #xplaced two IT workers Grow lightson paid administrative leave as a federal grand jury investigates allegations high school officials spied on their students in their homes via Webcams on school notebooks, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. The suspensions followed news that a 15-year-old student and his parents filed a lawsuit in federal court alleging that the school district invaded his privacy by remotely activating a Webcam and photographed the student in his home.

All Harriton High School students used the Apple (NSDQ:AAPL) MacBooks with built-in Webcams that are designed to capture images if the laptops are lost or stolen. The school district says it only activates the Webcams without students' knowledge for security purposes.

School officials have acknowledged remotely activating Grow lightsthe Webcams 42 times over the past 14 months in order to find missing laptops, but they deny that any students were spied on.

After the lawsuit was filed, district officials said they had disabled the remote surveillance system.

"The district generally does not comment on personnel matters, but we feel compelled to do so in the interest of two longtime staff members," spokesman Doug Young said, according to mainlinemedianews.com. "Placing them on administrative leave with pay is not a reflection of any wrongdoing on their part. It is a standard, prudent step in an investigation such as this one and it occurred in conjunction with the start of the review process nearly two weeks ago."

Lawyers for the two school employees#xplaced on leave said the use of the software was no secret. At least twice, the school district gave pictures and other information to Grow lightspolice in the school district to help them track stolen notebooks,GPS Tracker, the lawyers said.
