(Reuters) - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao displayedMetal halide bulb the showmanship and soft-edged populism #xon Sunday that has drawn both devotees and critics as he seeks to tame the nation's wild ride of industrial expansion.
The 67-year-old premier is entering his final years in charge of the world's third-biggest economy. At the Communist Party-run parliament this year, Wen said he would focus on narrowing social divisions and spreading wealth around to shore up consumption.
"My heart will always belong to my noble hopes, and for this I would have no regrets even if I died nine times over," Wen told a news conference on Sunday at the end of the parliament meeting.
He was quoting the ancient Chinese poet Qu Yuan, in a flourish typicalMetal halide bulb from a bookish government leader who rarely gives a news conference without reeling off verse.
But the domestic and international worries he laid out were more practical and sobering, including pressures on the yuan currency and domestic risks to growth.
"If there is inflation, plus unfair income distribution and corruption, they will be strong enough to affect social stability and even the stability of the state's power," Wen told reporters.
Wen bows out in early 2013, after a decade at the pinnacle of the one-party government, and has often said fairer development is at the heart of his agenda.
Analysts said he had left a marked but mixed imprint on policy, showing how stubbornly the ship of Chinese politics resists big turns, even if the captain shouts orders.
Wen's predecessor as premier, Zhu Rongji, seemed to #xrelish lambasting officials,State Flags, baiting reporters Metal halide bulband making bold policy gambles, sometimes successful, sometimes a mess.
