The Spirit Engine 2
Man, talk about bittersweet. The Spirit Engine 2, the much improved Truck tarpssequel to one of the better indie RPGs#x I've seen over the last few years is now available for free download. Which would be pretty great if not for the fact that it only went freebie on account of the fact that nobody seemed to be willing to pay ten bucks for it. So, yeah. Disheartening, given the obvious amount of love that has gone into the thing, but also... well, yay. Free game.
TSE2 is an odd duck of an RPG, presented with a side-on perspective and with tons of dialogue that unfolds (slightly) differently depending on the makeup of your party. Three characters of your choice, taken from a roster of nine distinct personalities, embark on one of those epic quest deals while fighting real-time, JRPG style battles along the way. The combat in particular is the sort of thing that's fallen out of vogue lately, even in Japan, but is nonetheless expertly presented here. It takes the Active Time concept of early Final Fantasy games and mates it with more modern ideas like attack combinations and standing orders for each party member. A bit Truck tarpslike Final Fantasy XIII, you can guide a battle every step of the way, set up instructions for your guys to follow while you lean back and watch, or some combination of the two. More often than not this means letting your party auto its way through the easy stuff while you micromanage the boss fights. And if you never quite got the hang of that kind of thing, or simply don't have the patience, Spirit Engine 2 includes several difficulty options, one of which is a complete cakewalk.
It won't appeal to everyone, and it unfortunately hit while this sort of game is at the nadir of its popularity, but Spirit Engine 2 is a solid old school JRPG style game, and one well worth playing for anyone who retains an interest in the genre. It's also probably worth mentioning that, even though it's free, you can still go ahead #xand drop a few dollars on itTruck tarpsif it makes you happy and you aren't broke.

Bubbles are back as a topic of serious discussion, as they were before the financial crisis. The questions today are: (1) Can you spot bubbles? (2) Can policy makers do anything to deflate them gently? (3) Can anyone make money when bubbles get out of control?
Our answers are: (1) Spotting pure equity bubbles may sometimes Safety barriersbe hard, but we can always see unsustainable finances supported by cheap credit. Marc Bern, a senior partner with the law firm Worby, Groner, Edelman & Napoli, Bern LLP, which negotiated the deal, said it was "a good settlement."

The hearing before the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Beadsthe fourth congressional hearing in recent weeks involving NHTSA and the safety of Toyota cars, was meant to review the agency's actions and whether it has enough funding, personnel and legal authority to investigate defects in the industry.

"NHTSA's programs work, and they work well," he said.

I have just finished reading one of the most astoundingly stupid and nasty documents ever to have landed on my desk. But rather than give them a father, let them hire someone to play their dad — trusting that most people won't remember that NBC used the exact same plot 20 years ago for the deservedly short-lived Robert Mitchum sitcom A Family for Joe.
And yes, you read that right: A Robert Mitchum sitcom. Pause to consider that for a moment.
This time around for the father, they've cast Taylor Labine, an amusing supporting actor who has become less amusing with each increase in airtime. Clearly, though, the producers don't agree, as they seem to be under the impression that every move this talented-but-overexposed actor makes is comedy gold.
The "sons" in the title are 8-year-old Robby (Benjamin Stockham), 11-year-old Gary (Frank Dolce) and 13-year-old Brandon (Matthew Levy), on their own thanks to an absent mother and an imprisoned father. So they can stay together, they hire a homeless sporting goods salesman, Ron (Labine),#x
to pretend to be their father — and then they force him to live in the backyard shed.
Why stick him in a shed instead of in a bedroom? Apparently because the producers think it will be endlessly hilarious to watch Ron try to scheme his way into the house, like Lucy trying to break into show business.
That bit worked for I Love Lucyfor years.Linear actuator Three episodes into Sons and it's already exhausted — which is a comment both on the performances and on the lack of effort the writers make to invest us in the outcome.
Part of the joke, of course, is supposed to be the role-reversal battle between the *****ish Ron and the old-beyond-his-years Gary, who also is struggling to keep his volatile little brother and flaked-out older brother in line. There are some humorous moments and decent lines. But overall, the joke has such a nasty, frantic edge, it's hard to care which way the punch line lands.
In the end,Fire hose, you have to wonder why Fox would even bother to do a live-action sitcom if the characters are going to come across as less human than the network's cartoons. #x

"It's time for these insurance company CEOs to do their part to make the system more transparent for the American people. If insurance companies are going to raise rates, the least they can do is tell us why," the secretary said in a release.
In the letter, she asked the health insurance chief executives to post on their Web sites their estimates on medical cost and utilization increases and the basis for those estimates; reasons for premium increases that outpace medical cost growth,Military Flags; an explanation of company efforts to improve health-care affordability; information on the percentage of premium revenue spent on medical claims, administrative costs, executive salaries and other costs; the number of people whose experience is used to raise rates; and other data.

We’re even more jazzed going into this year. We believe it’s going to be more exciting.”

In the off-season, last season’s regular-season champion, the Los Angeles Sol, folded after the Anschutz Entertainment Group, which ran the club, surrendered its rights to the team when it was unable to find a new owner. Antonucci acknowledged that most of the W.P.S. clubs lost about $2 million each last season, but said the league and its clubs had secured additional sponsorship deals. Antonucci said that average player salaries would increase 3 percent this season to an approximate average of $32,000 a player for a seven-month contract. There will be 18 players on each team’s regular-season roster.
But the loss of the Sol may be softened by the arrival of two expansion clubs — the Atlanta Beat and the Philadelphia Independence. Atlanta will play in a new stadium on the campus of Kennesaw State in Georgia.#x

Perhaps NASCAR should redefine its new rules on allowing more on-track freedom for drivers, following Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski's frightful incident in the closing laps of Sunday's race at Atlanta.
Keselowski got his bell rung when Edwards intentionally bumped him from behind and sent his No.12 Penske Dodge flying upside down into the wall along the frontstretch at the fast 1.54-mile track.Edwards was more than 150 laps behind at the time of the crash, due to a previous encounter with Keselowski earlier in the race. #xKeselowski clipped Edwards and shot him up to the track before he made contact with Joey Logano and then slammed into the wall.
Obviously, it was payback time for Edwards, after he spent most of the race in the garage for repairs on his Roush Fenway Racing Ford.Keselowski was not injured during his spectacular crash, but appeared to be a bit dazed and confused when he exited his battered car under his own power.
"It's one thing to race somebody hard and to get into an accident," Keselowski said. "When you're going for position, it's another to intentionally wreck somebody doing 195 m.p.h. at a track like this."
NASCAR immediately took action when they parked Edwards for the remainder of the event and ordered him to the hauler for a not-so-pleasant discussion with race officials."Concrete Mixing StationI think we probably won't have as many run-ins now as we had in the past, and that's a good thing," Edwards said. “To the extent the State of the Union has degenerated into a political pep rally, I’m not sure why we’re there,” Roberts said Tuesday at the University of Alabama, elucidating the obvious. Politics? At the State of the Union? Let’s all pause for a moment while we get over the shock.
Roberts was complaining about the moment in January’s speech when President Obama blasted the court’s anything-goes decision on campaign finance. Six justices were in attendance, including three who voted with the majority; Justice Samuel Alito couldn’t keep himself from mouthing the words “not true” and shaking his head. Much comment ensued.
“The image of having the members of one branch of government standing up, literally surrounding the Supreme Court, cheering and hollering while the court — according to the requirements of protocol — #xhas to sit there expressionless, I think is very troubling,” Roberts said told a group of ’Bama law students.
He’s got a point. Obama had every right to call the justices out for a decision that he (and, ahem, many others) believes was wrong. But, as The Post's Eva Rodriguez noted this afternoon, in such a political atmosphere it’s unrealistic to expect the targets of presidential wrath to sit like cyborgs,Translation?Qingdao betraying not a hint of reaction. I would go further, and ask whether it is necessary, or even appropriate, for them to go at all.
It’s not as if Alito did the full Joe Wilson and yelled “You lie!” or even “You misinterpret the equal protection clause!” He shook his head and muttered — and even in a setting of such high ceremony, some allowance has to be made for muttering.
But really, what are the justices doing there anyway? The State of the Union is an occasion for the president to lay out his agenda. The Supremes’ work shouldn’t be affected by anything the president says. Their only role is as props, their presence a reminder that our government has a third,Mold, less visible, branch. A better way to bring home this civics lesson would be for the court to allow oral arguments and other proceedings to be televised. Then the nation would learn something.
On State of the Union night, the justices can get together at the courthouse,#x order some takeout and watch the whole thing on the tube. Translation?QingdaoThey’ll be free to cheer and boo all they want, just like the rest of us.
