The Spirit Engine 2

The Spirit Engine 2,Pearl earrings The Spirit Engine 2 Man, talk about bittersweet. The Spirit Engine 2, the much improved Truck tarps

sequel to one of the better indie RPGs#x I've seen over the last few years is now available for free download. Which would be pretty great if not for the fact that it only went freebie on account of the fact that nobody seemed to be willing to pay ten bucks for it. So, yeah. Disheartening, given the obvious amount of love that has gone into the thing, but also... well, yay. Free game.

TSE2 is an odd duck of an RPG, presented with a side-on perspective and with tons of dialogue that unfolds (slightly) differently depending on the makeup of your party. Three characters of your choice, taken from a roster of nine distinct personalities, embark on one of those epic quest deals while fighting real-time, JRPG style battles along the way. The combat in particular is the sort of thing that's fallen out of vogue lately, even in Japan, but is nonetheless expertly presented here. It takes the Active Time concept of early Final Fantasy games and mates it with more modern ideas like attack combinations and standing orders for each party member. A bit
Truck tarps

like Final Fantasy XIII, you can guide a battle every step of the way, set up instructions for your guys to follow while you lean back and watch, or some combination of the two. More often than not this means letting your party auto its way through the easy stuff while you micromanage the boss fights. And if you never quite got the hang of that kind of thing, or simply don't have the patience, Spirit Engine 2 includes several difficulty options, one of which is a complete cakewalk.

It won't appeal to everyone, and it unfortunately hit while this sort of game is at the nadir of its popularity, but Spirit Engine 2 is a solid old school JRPG style game, and one well worth playing for anyone who retains an interest in the genre. It's also probably worth mentioning that, even though it's free, you can still go ahead #xand drop a few dollars on it
Truck tarps

if it makes you happy and you aren't broke.

Greece, the Latest and Greatest Bubble

Greece, the Latest and Greatest Bubble Greece, katana, the Latest and Greatest Bubble Peter Boone is chairman of the charity Effective Intervention#x and Safety barriersa research associate at the Center for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics. Simon Johnson, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics, is the former chief economist at the International Monetary Fund.

Bubbles are back as a topic of serious discussion, as they were before the financial crisis. The questions today are: (1) Can you spot bubbles? (2) Can policy makers do anything to deflate them gently? (3) Can anyone make money when bubbles get out of control?

Our answers are: (1) Spotting pure equity bubbles may sometimes Safety barriersbe hard, but we can always see unsustainable finances supported by cheap credit. (2) Policy makers will not act because all great (and dangerous) bubbles build their own political support; bubbles are invincible, until they collapse. (3) A few investors can do well by betting against such bubbles, but it’s harder than you might think because you have to get the timing right — and that’s much more about luck than skill.

Bubbles are usually associated with runaway real estate prices or emerging market booms or just the stock market gone mad (remember Pets.com?). But they are a much more general phenomenon — any time the actual market value for any asset diverges from a reasonable estimate of its “fundamental” value.

To think about this more specifically, consider the case of Greece today. It might seem odd to suggest there is a bubble#x in a country so evidently under financial pressure, and Safety barriersworking so hard to stave off collapse with the help of its neighbors.

Deal could pay $657M to sickened WTC responders Deal could pay $657M to sickened WTC responders After years of fighting in court, Embroidered Fabricslawyers representing the city, construction companies and more than 10,000 ground zero rescue and recovery workers have agreed to a settlement that could pay up to $657.5 million to responders sickened by dust from the destroyed World Trade Center.#x

The settlement was announced Thursday evening by the WTC Captive Insurance Co., a special entity established to indemnify the city and its contractors against potential legal action as they moved to clean up the site after the Sept. 11, 2001,Mold, terror attacks.

The deal, which still must be approved by a judge and the workers themselves, would make the city and other companies represented by the insurer liable for a minimum of $575 million, with more money available to the sick if certain conditions are met.

Most if not all of the money would come out of a $1 billion grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg called the settlement "a fair and reasonable resolution to a complex set of circumstances."

"The resolution of the World Trade Center litigation will allow the first responders and workers to be compensated for injuries suffered following their work at Ground Zero,"Embroidered Fabrics #xhe said in a statement.

Marc Bern, a senior partner with the law firm Worby, Groner, Edelman & Napoli, Bern LLP, which negotiated the deal, said it was "a good settlement."

"We are gratified that these heroic men and women who performed their duties without consideration of the health implications will finally receive just compensation for their pain and suffering, lost wages, medical and other expenses, as the U.S. Congress intended when it appropriated this money," he said in a statement.Embroidered Fabrics

Workers who wish to participate in the settlement would need to prove they had been at the World Trade Center site or other facilities that handled debris.#x They also would have to turn over medical records and provide other information aimed at weeding out fraudulent or dubious claims.

Director says NHTSA responded properly on Toyota's

Director says NHTSA responded properly on Toyota's problems Director says NHTSA responded properly on Toyota's problems The chief of the nation's auto safety regulators rejected criticism on Thursday that his agency made mistakes and responded too slowly to years of complaints regarding runaway Toyotas.

David L. Strickland, Beadsadministrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, also denied in testimony before a House committee that the agency had become a "lap dog" for the car industry rather than a watchdog protecting the American public.

"From my review of the work done, if we're talking about Toyota specifically,#x this agency opened eight separate investigations over the time period when there were complaints about sudden acceleration," Strickland said. "A lap dog doesn't open eight investigations."

The hearing before the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Beadsthe fourth congressional hearing in recent weeks involving NHTSA and the safety of Toyota cars, was meant to review the agency's actions and whether it has enough funding, personnel and legal authority to investigate defects in the industry.

The 600-plus-person agency has plans to add 66 people under its proposed budget. #x Strickland is also exploring whether it might need more legal authority to regulate the modern,Buy in Global, more international auto industry.

As for new regulations, the government might make brake override systems mandatory, which would allow a driver to stop a car even if the throttle is stuck open. It is also considering requiring event data recorders, or "black boxes," that would save information about the car's operation in the event of a crash -- a device many cars already feature.

But lawmakers have differed over threshold questions regarding the Toyota controversy, such as whether NHTSA and Toyota have failed to meet their responsibilities.

In opening his testimony, Strickland reported that traffic fatalities had fallen 8.9 percent to 33,963 in 2009, which he said was the lowest annual level since 1954.

"NHTSA's programs work, and they work well," he said.

The agency has faced a wave of criticism that it has been too close to the industry it regulates. #x Two former NHTSA regulators work for Toyota's Washington office. BeadsAnd although the agency has conducted eight investigations into reports on unintended acceleration, as Strickland noted, most of those inquiries were closed without a finding of a defect.

WigHis career later cooled as he struggled with drugs. The LAPD says the apparent cause of death was an overdose.#x Corey Haim was in full teen-idol mode in 1988, swamped with letters from adoring young female fans and his face on the covers of teen magazines.

But it was acting that was foremost on the mind of the Canadian-born 16-year-old, whose growing list of credits included “Lucas” and the teenage vampire movie “The Lost Boys.”

Haim, observed a visiting Times writer, "actually believes he is the next James Dean."

"I know I can do it," Haim said. "Dean made only three movies, and he's such a legend. People think he's so brilliant. He was so raw.

Yamani or Your Life

06:03, 1969-Dec-31 .. 0 comments .. Link
Yamani or Your Life Yamani or Your Life I have just finished reading one of the most astoundingly stupid and nasty documents ever to have landed on my desk. It consists of a letter from a law firm in Saudi Arabia, #xrun by a man named Ahmed Zaki Yamani, Halogen bulbto a group of newspapers in Scandinavia. I quote directly from its main paragraphs:

Over the past months my law firm has been contacted by several thousand descendants of the Prophet, who have learned about your newspaper's republication of the drawing, depicting their esteemed ancestor as a terrorist suicide bomber with a bomb in his turban.

As descendants of the Prophet, these individuals feel personally insulted, emotionally distressed and defamed by your newspaper's re-publication of the drawing. They have therefore retained my law firm and instructed me to approach you …

So that's the stupid part—the idea that people who claim descent from a seventh-century warlord and preacher have standing to sue for hurt feelings. Halogen bulbThe nasty bit comes a few paragraphs later:

[I]t is my belief that your newspaper's fulfillment of the above-mentioned conditions would be perceived as a sign of respect and understanding throughout the Muslim world in general, and your newspaper might thus help resolve the severe conflict, which your re-publication of the drawing has created. #xAs you may be aware, this conflict is still affecting Danish and Arab interests, in particular in the Middle East, where a number of Danish products are still being boycotted.

It is impossible not to notice the element of threat and menace contained in the second extract. It's not difficult to remind Danes of the organized campaign of hysterical retribution, ranging from the burnings of embassies to the mob-killing of civilians, that followed the first publication of some mild caricatures of the prophet Mohammed in 2005. Only a little further backstory is required: In 2008, it was discovered that a cell of eager murderers was planning to kill those who authored the caricatures, and in solidarity a large number of Danish newspapers reprinted the drawings in order to express their support for freedom of speech. Then, on New Year's 2009,#x a Somali fundamentalist chopped his way into the house of 74-year-old cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, who was having a sleepover with his granddaughter, and very nearly succeeded in axing them both to death. The apology for all this, however, google排名, is supposed to be forthcoming not from the aggressors and inciters but from their victims. Late last month, Halogen bulbCopenhagen newspaper Politiken agreed to make a public apology on the terms dictated by the Yamani law firm.

Learning to Keep Patients Safe in a Culture of Fea

Learning to Keep Patients Safe in a Culture of Fear Learning to Keep Patients Safe in a Culture of Fear One afternoon during my training, I watched as one of my closest friends, another surgery resident, #xwas led into the office of the department chief.Multivitamin tablet A week earlier she had been on call when a patient developed a rapid and irregular heart rhythm. He became unconscious and would have soon died if my friend had not stepped in and resuscitated him.

Her intervention, I thought, really proved her mettle.

But there had been a misunderstanding that night about the timing of one of the medications administered. Questions turned into a heated discussion between my friend and a nurse, and what should have been cause for celebration quickly turned into a blistering debate. The next morning,ATM Parts, my friend found herself the subject of an “incident report,” a form that hospital workers can use to report accidents. The nurse believed my friend had committed malpractice by ordering the medication too quickly, despite her saving the patient’s life. Multivitamin tablet

“It doesn’t matter if I’m right or wrong,” #xmy friend told me after learning of the report. “That incident report will be a permanent mark on my record.”

I could not argue with her; she was expressing what all of us doctors-in-training believed to be true. While we often talked about errors among ourselves, dissecting the events with great precision, we also went out of our way to avoid any formal documentation of mistakes we had seen. For it seemed that once these mishaps were discussed in department meetings or written up, the narratives called out for someone who could be held accountable. Incident reports, described to us on our first day on the job as a tool for decreasing errors and increasing transparency, became a way for others in the hospital “to hang the residents out to dry.”

Even now, my heart skips a beat when I hear the words “incident report.” #x

But over the last decade, hospitals have increasingly made patient safety a priority. Incorporating the lessons learned in high-risk industries like aviation and nuclear energy, Multivitamin tabletmedical centers across the country have begun promoting protocols, procedures and checklists to prevent health care errors.

'Sons of Tucson' recycles sitcoms

'Sons of Tucson' recycles sitcoms 'Sons of Tucson' recycles sitcoms Like a lot of sitcoms, Sons of Tucson could use less concept and more comedy.Linear actuator Watching Sunday's premiere, you can almost hear the pitch being made,#x and feel the show being cobbled together out of bits and pieces of other sitcoms.

Take three kids who seem to have nothing in common with one another, and too much in common with the boys from Malcolm in the Middle. (One of Tucson's producers is Justin Berfield, who was Malcolm's Reese.)

But rather than give them a father, let them hire someone to play their dad — trusting that most people won't remember that NBC used the exact same plot 20 years ago for the deservedly short-lived Robert Mitchum sitcom A Family for Joe.

And yes, you read that right: A Robert Mitchum sitcom. Pause to consider that for a moment.

This time around for the father, they've cast Taylor Labine, an amusing supporting actor who has become less amusing with each increase in airtime. Clearly, though, the producers don't agree, as they seem to be under the impression that every move this talented-but-overexposed actor makes is comedy gold.

The "sons" in the title are 8-year-old Robby (Benjamin Stockham), 11-year-old Gary (Frank Dolce) and 13-year-old Brandon (Matthew Levy), on their own thanks to an absent mother and an imprisoned father. So they can stay together, they hire a homeless sporting goods salesman, Ron (Labine),#x to pretend to be their father — and then they force him to live in the backyard shed.

Why stick him in a shed instead of in a bedroom? Apparently because the producers think it will be endlessly hilarious to watch Ron try to scheme his way into the house, like Lucy trying to break into show business.

That bit worked for I Love Lucyfor years.Linear actuator Three episodes into Sons and it's already exhausted — which is a comment both on the performances and on the lack of effort the writers make to invest us in the outcome.

Part of the joke, of course, is supposed to be the role-reversal battle between the *****ish Ron and the old-beyond-his-years Gary, who also is struggling to keep his volatile little brother and flaked-out older brother in line. There are some humorous moments and decent lines. But overall, the joke has such a nasty, frantic edge, it's hard to care which way the punch line lands.

In the end,Fire hose, you have to wonder why Fox would even bother to do a live-action sitcom if the characters are going to come across as less human than the network's cartoons. #x You have some talented people at work on-screen.Linear actuator Why not give them something real to play, and something funny to do? Now there's a concept.

US Government Presses Health Insurers On Rate Incr

US Government Presses Health Insurers On Rate Increases US Government Presses Health Insurers On Rate Increases Health insurers took more heat over rising premiums Monday as U.S. Pearl ringHealth and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius called on managed-care companies to publicly justify rate increases and President Barack Obama cited a recent Wall Street conference call #xas evidence that the industry is willing and able to price out some customers.

Following a White House meeting last week with chief executives from several major health insurance companies, Sebelius sent the executives a letter Monday reiterating her request that they justify on their Web sites any individual or small-group rate increases.

The letter went to the four largest publicly traded health insurers--WellPoint Inc.#x (WLP), UnitedHealth Group Inc. (UNH), Aetna Inc. (AET) and Cigna Corp. (CI)--and to customer-owned Health Care Service Corp.

Shares of the four stocks, like those in most of the managed-care industry, fell Monday, Pearl ringwith UnitedHealth being the biggest decliner, down 1.8% in midday trading.

"It's time for these insurance company CEOs to do their part to make the system more transparent for the American people. If insurance companies are going to raise rates, the least they can do is tell us why," the secretary said in a release.

In the letter, she asked the health insurance chief executives to post on their Web sites their estimates on medical cost and utilization increases and the basis for those estimates; reasons for premium increases that outpace medical cost growth,Military Flags; an explanation of company efforts to improve health-care affordability; information on the percentage of premium revenue spent on medical claims, administrative costs, executive salaries and other costs; the number of people whose experience is used to raise rates; and other data.

The health insurance industry has emphasized the need to control soaring medical costs, which they blame for higher rates, and object to the administration's heavy emphasis on insurers. #xThe industry also attributes higher rates to younger, healthier people dropping coverage.

"We agree with the goals outlined by Secretary Sebelius and would participate in a comprehensive program that included all players across the health-care industry, not only in the insurance sector," Pearl ringWellPoint spokesman Kristin Binns said.

W.P.S. Optimistic After Its Off-Season Shuffling W.P.S. Optimistic After Its Off-Season Shuffling Year 2 of the Women’s Professional Soccer league began with the opening of preseason training camps last weekend. High pressure sodium bulbThe regular season opens April 10.

The league, the successor to the Women’s United Soccer Association, #xwhich folded in a sea of red ink after the 2003 season, endured a difficult economy in 2009 and returns to the soccer landscape in a busy year that includes the World Cup in June.

“We think it will be the opposite of getting lost,” W.P.S. Commissioner Tonya Antonucci said in a telephone interview. “I think we’re going to get more attention because the focus is on soccer in this country among hardcore fans. We’re even more jazzed going into this year. We believe it’s going to be more exciting.”

In a way, the league has taken a few steps forward and one back. In the off-season, last season’s regular-season champion, the Los Angeles Sol, folded after the Anschutz Entertainment Group, which ran the club, surrendered its rights to the team when it was unable to find a new owner. That sent the marquee player in W.P.S.,High pressure sodium bulb the Brazilian striker Marta, into the expansion draft and eventually up the California coast to F.C. Gold Pride in the San Francisco Bay Area.

“You never want to lose a team; the focus was acute for us because it was our first year,” Antonucci said. “We tried hard to find a solution. Los Angeles is a viable market and we could get back to L.A.,#x perhaps as early as 2011.”

Antonucci acknowledged that most of the W.P.S. clubs lost about $2 million each last season, but said the league and its clubs had secured additional sponsorship deals. League games will continue to be carried on the Fox Soccer Channel,Military Flags, and the W.P.S. Web site provides a superior match tracker for those without access to the cable channel. Antonucci said that average player salaries would increase 3 percent this season to an approximate average of $32,000 a player for a seven-month contract. There will be 18 players on each team’s regular-season roster.

But the loss of the Sol may be softened by the arrival of two expansion clubs — the Atlanta Beat and the Philadelphia Independence. Atlanta will play in a new stadium on the campus of Kennesaw State in Georgia.#x

For the best female players in the world, one year before the Women’s World Cup in Germany, W.P.S. has become the destination of choice. The Global Fund says it needs $13- to $20 billion from 2011 to 2013 to make that happen.#x

The Global Fund is meeting at the end of this month to talk about how it can reduce instances of those three diseases.

Researchers say the drinks are adding to the nation's obesity epidemic and creating hundreds of millions of dollars in health care costs.

H1N1 seen lying low, then rising again in Europe

H1N1 seen lying low, then rising again in Europe H1N1 seen lying low, then rising again in Europe The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) canvas bagsaid the H1N1 swine flu virus would probably spread at low levels during 2010's spring and summer,Carbon fiber hood, and be the dominant and threatening strain in the winter flu season.#x

"It seems unlikely that there will be another spring/summer pandemic wave in Europe unless there are significant unrecognized uninfected populations or the virus changes and becomes more transmissible," the ECDC, which monitors disease in the European Union, said in its latest flu risk assessment.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared last June that H1N1 was causing a pandemic -- the first influenza pandemic in 40 years -- after it was discovered in Mexico and the United States and spread around the world within six weeks.

So far the WHO has confirmed 16,226 deaths from the H1N1 pandemic virus, but the real death toll -- which will take at least a year to ascertain -- will be far higher, as most victims will have never been diagnosed or tested.

WHO said last month it was too early to say the pandemic had peaked, but it will review a decision on whether to declare a "post peak" phase in a few weeks' time.#x

Because evidence so far suggests there have been no major changes in the H1N1 virus, the Stockholm-based ECDC said similar death rates should be expected in the 2010/2011 winter, but "numbers of cases will be considerably smaller because of the previous transmission and vaccination."canvas bag

"ECDC's advice to EU citizens remains to accept influenza vaccination when it is offered to them," it said.

The WHO says more than 300 million people have been vaccinated against pandemic flu, and the immunizations, which have an excellent safety record, are 70-75 percent effective.#x

The pandemic sparked a race to develop new vaccines by drugmakers canvas bagsuch as GlaxoSmithKline and Sanofi-Aventis but many people declined the offer of the vaccine when the flu outbreak turned out to be milder than feared.

NASCAR needs to control on-going Edwards-Keselowsk

NASCAR needs to control on-going Edwards-Keselowski feud,Diamond blade NASCAR needs to control on-going Edwards-Keselowski feud Prior to the start of the 2010 season, NASCAR essentially told Sprint Cup Series drivers, Concrete Mixing Station"Boys, have at it and have a good time." Perhaps NASCAR should redefine its new rules on allowing more on-track freedom for drivers, following Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski's frightful incident in the closing laps of Sunday's race at Atlanta.

Keselowski got his bell rung when Edwards intentionally bumped him from behind and sent his No.12 Penske Dodge flying upside down into the wall along the frontstretch at the fast 1.54-mile track.Edwards was more than 150 laps behind at the time of the crash, due to a previous encounter with Keselowski earlier in the race. #xKeselowski clipped Edwards and shot him up to the track before he made contact with Joey Logano and then slammed into the wall.

Obviously, it was payback time for Edwards, after he spent most of the race in the garage for repairs on his Roush Fenway Racing Ford.Keselowski was not injured during his spectacular crash, but appeared to be a bit dazed and confused when he exited his battered car under his own power.

"It's one thing to race somebody hard and to get into an accident," Keselowski said. "When you're going for position, it's another to intentionally wreck somebody doing 195 m.p.h. at a track like this." NASCAR immediately took action when they parked Edwards for the remainder of the event and ordered him to the hauler for a not-so-pleasant discussion with race officials."Concrete Mixing StationI think we probably won't have as many run-ins now as we had in the past, and that's a good thing," Edwards said. "Both of us probably will be better off."#x

Right now, NASCAR faces a dilemma on how to handle the latest in the on-going feud between Edwards and Keselowski. Concrete Mixing StationThe sanctioning body currently is reviewing the episode between the two drivers, and could hand down hefty penalties if warranted."I would say that there seems to be a history between the two drivers, and I'm not going any further on it right now," NASCAR vice president of competition Robin Pemberton said after the race. While the Hamlin-Keselowski rivalry has simmered for the time being, the feud between Edwards and Keselowski has reached a boiling point. Edwards counter- attack at Atlanta could have produced devastating consequences.

Suspensions are not common in NASCAR's top circuit. Only two Cup drivers have been suspended for a race in the past decade. Kevin Harvick sat out the spring race at Martinsville one day after he was parked for rough driving in the truck race there. NASCAR grounded Robby Gordon for the August 2007 race at Pocono following his on-track altercation with Marcos Ambrose in the inaugural Nationwide event at Montreal.

Even though NASCAR adopted a more hands-off policy this year,#x Edwards crossed the line at Atlanta,Concrete Mixing Station and he should be punished.

It's time for NASCAR to take the appropriate action.

John Roberts gets it right (for once)

    06:03, 1969-Dec-31 .. 0 comments .. Link
John Roberts gets it right (for once) John Roberts gets it right (for once) Chief Justice John Roberts is wrong about a lot of things — most things, Translation?Qingdaoactually — but he may be right when he suggests that he and his black-robed colleagues should give the State of the Union address a pass. #xTheir presence looks like a tradition whose time has come and gone.

“To the extent the State of the Union has degenerated into a political pep rally, I’m not sure why we’re there,” Roberts said Tuesday at the University of Alabama, elucidating the obvious. Politics? At the State of the Union? Let’s all pause for a moment while we get over the shock.

Roberts was complaining about the moment in January’s speech when President Obama blasted the court’s anything-goes decision on campaign finance. Six justices were in attendance, including three who voted with the majority; Justice Samuel Alito couldn’t keep himself from mouthing the words “not true” and shaking his head. Much comment ensued.

“The image of having the members of one branch of government standing up, literally surrounding the Supreme Court, cheering and hollering while the court — according to the requirements of protocol — #xhas to sit there expressionless, I think is very troubling,” Roberts said told a group of ’Bama law students.

He’s got a point. Obama had every right to call the justices out for a decision that he (and, ahem, many others) believes was wrong. But, as The Post's Eva Rodriguez noted this afternoon, in such a political atmosphere it’s unrealistic to expect the targets of presidential wrath to sit like cyborgs,Translation?Qingdao betraying not a hint of reaction. I would go further, and ask whether it is necessary, or even appropriate, for them to go at all.

It’s not as if Alito did the full Joe Wilson and yelled “You lie!” or even “You misinterpret the equal protection clause!” He shook his head and muttered — and even in a setting of such high ceremony, some allowance has to be made for muttering.

But really, what are the justices doing there anyway? The State of the Union is an occasion for the president to lay out his agenda. The Supremes’ work shouldn’t be affected by anything the president says. Their only role is as props, their presence a reminder that our government has a third,Mold, less visible, branch. A better way to bring home this civics lesson would be for the court to allow oral arguments and other proceedings to be televised. Then the nation would learn something.

On State of the Union night, the justices can get together at the courthouse,#x order some takeout and watch the whole thing on the tube. Translation?QingdaoThey’ll be free to cheer and boo all they want, just like the rest of us.
